RE: Continuous Passive Motion Unit

I can't answer your specific question about these pieces of equipment but if I ran into the same situation, I'd be talking to my doctor and telling him that my ins. won't cover it. I'm sure he's run into that before and has alternative options. One that occurs to me, based on DW's doctor's response to a similar situation, is to put you into a non hospital rehab facility for a few weeks. Your ins. would probably cover that and if they do, faced with those add'l costs, the ins co. might relent.

RE: luxury resorts in florida

There are many & FL is a long state. Where in FL are you interested? We have a preference for Silver Lakes Golf & RV Resort in Naples. Some pix are linked in my sig. Public beaches with parking at the Gulf terminus of nearly each east/west street in Naples.

RE: WiFi - Ethics

Now I've read the thread. Those of you who blithely assert that the airwaves are free are wrong and you need to take a quick course on the role of government and the FCC. Further, even if one were to grant that the communications airwaves are free of regulation, the old wild west so to speak, you who think you can camp on someone else's WiFi signal need to gain a little more understanding of how the Inet works. There is probably only one individual in the world who has direct access to the backbone of the internet and Al Gore is probably not on this forum. The rest of us mere mortals have to go through an ISP who then routes our data packets to the internet. So when those of you who are camping on someone else's bandwidth on the basis that the stupid idiot didn't secure his signal and it's over the public airwaves so 'why not', you are ignoring the fact that your data packets may be sent by your 'puter to that idiot's WiFi signal but they aren't going to the internet unless they go through the ISP that the idiot is paying for. He/she is paying cash money for your transmission to move from the WiFi signal to the Inet's backbone. To add insult to injury, your usage of his/her ISP degrades the service that he/she is paying for so the person paying the ISP gets less service than he/she deserves. If access to the net was truly free, you wouldn't be looking to grab someone else's service. If access to the net was truly free, all manner of companies, particularly retailers, would be installing routers and hubs etc and trying to get you to their shop with internet access as the leader. If it is free, why do you grab someone else's signal - use your own free signal. The answer is one word - cheap. Rationalize all you want about airwaves and my WiFi signal pulsing through your family room or MH, jumping on it and sending your packets through my ISP under my contract is Theft of Service. I hope I never have my wallet accidentally come out of my pocket and fall to the ground in your path!

RE: WiFi - Ethics

This has probably been expressed before but I'm not going to read the whole thread. Let's see. I pay for my ISP service. It is mine and only mine, not to be shared, per contract with the ISP. I access my ISP using an aircard which in turn is used in a router thereby creating a WiFi signal for both our laptops. Whether I choose to secure or not secure MY WiFi signal is my business and mine alone. If I choose not to secure it, it does not change the fact that the ISP access is mine, paid for solely by me. When someone accesses my WiFi signal to get on the internet, they are getting to the internet via MY ISP and using services that I pay for. There is a legal term for that - it's called "theft of services." I'm sure someone on this thread has said they have used an open access WiFi and would have asked permission if ONLY they had known who the owner of the signal was. #1 that would be a tacit admission that someone other than themselves owns the signal. While they may not know who owns the signal, they darn well know that they don't own it. People who want to share their WiFi with the public will either say so (as in a cg giving you the access code etc.) or they will name their WiFi such that you can ID the owner and ask (as in "XYZ Hotel") or they will expressly state their intent in the WiFi name (like naming it "Public Access" or "FreeWiFi") There are many instances of successfully prosecuted theft of services cases - just look at the cable TV industry.

RE: 5th Wheel Towing with a HDT

Hey Britt - thanx so much for the kind words and even more for you and your wife taking the time and trouble to find us and say hello while you're on, what I'm sure, is a too short vacation. And to you Cliff, thank you for your PM. I do appreciate it and the feedback. Dave, not to step on the question to Britt, but I'll answer for our experiences. Have never had a blowout or low air on the MDT though I've had a bad tire cut on one of the drive tires. We do not carry a spare. I'd not be physically able, I don't think, to wrestle one of those around. Additionally, though our truck air and impact wrench work fine on the 5ver tires, they're no where near enough of match for the truck lug nuts. So that's one call I'd make to our ins co's ERS. With our 5ver, like Britt, I religiously check tire pressure on every travel day morning and air up to max if needed. At every stop, I thump all six tires. Over our 11yrs of FTing, we've had over a dozen blow. One was a road hazard and the others were tread separations. Outside of the one, GY had paid for all replacements without a hassle. I've only had minor 5ver damage once and GY paid to replace that skirt. Two yrs ago I reviewed the history and my weigh slips (always within ratings) with GY & my 5ver mfr and they upgraded all 7 wheels and replaced the tires with G rated tires. Not sure who paid but it wasn't me. Haven't had a single problem since. I've never heard any of the blowouts but I drive with my eyes on the side mirrors as much as on the road ahead (gotta watch for the nearby presence of 4 wheelers - don't want to take a chance on ruining a day by hitting one of those whose driver thinks it's smart to pull in front of 16-17 ton with their little import or smart to drive in my blind spot for miles). I've nearly always seen the gray/blue puff of smoke and shower of rubber pieces. Changing the tire takes about 20 min. so it's faster to just do that on the rig rather than waiting for ERS. PP would be nice but I do read about a few failures with those systems as well. It's not inexpensive to buy for 12 positions and so far I've only got less than $300 of my money invested in the many failures over the years. With GY paying for the failures, I've never had to buy a new set of rubber for the 5ver. Just another point of view.

RE: Slide toppers

Thank you hook47! Never could understand why folks want the mesh toppers that catch debris and let water thru to their slide roof. The problems folks have with wind on their toppers is a function of insufficient spring tension, not fabric selection.

RE: How do full-timers in Texas get their meds?

OP, while some states have some strange rules that further complicate getting drugs while on the road (NY is another problem state) the problem you are having is a federal one. Ativan (Lorazapam) is a Schedule 4 controlled substance and no Schedule 4 can be transferred more than once. It has nothing to do with TX. DW has a number of Sch 4's and when we get new scripts, we get them filled wherever we are and then we use the one transfer to move them to a pharmacy near one of our children who then handles the remaining 5 refills and Fed Ex's them to wherever we are (we can control that timing when traveling better than a mail order pharmacy). If you ever get Sch 2 prescriptions, prepare yourself for more problems. As Dale mentioned, TX is very protective of it medical service providers (they must have a good lobby). Should you be disabled with a medical specialist in another state handling your disability and then 'move' to TX, TX DMV will not accept your out of state doctor's prescription for your handicapped placard or plates. You need to have your disability recertified by a TX doctor and get a H/C script from him/her. What a waste of time and money.

RE: Slideout Awning & Snow

Topper awning was probably the wrong size. A proper topper, when the slide is fully extended, still should have more material left on the roller so that snow or ice can lay on the topper and the material will just unroll some more and lay flat on the slider roof. It is the spring tension on the roller that should keep a topper taut under normal conditions or just rain, not the fact that the roller has run out of awning material. The proper topper when filled with water, snow etc and laying flat on the slider roof, will shed itself of the snow etc, when the sun melts it and evaporates the water such that the lesser weight then allows the roller spring to take up the slack. The process can be accelerated by running the slide in a bit so the roller can tighten the slack, then back out, then in a little more etc until all the water or snow is shed.

RE: 5th Wheel Towing with a HDT

Cliff, since I got your attention before, let me address a couple of points in your post. Our MDT is our daily driver and has been for years. We don't find downtowns in major cities to be any problem at all. Parallel parking is a breeze and I've done it in many downtowns including DC and Seattle. About 1/2 of the parking garages present a height problem and because most people see a truck like that and make size assumptions, I carry a little sheet with size comparisons between my truck and the 1 ton pickups and passenger vans. These I give to the downtown type ground parking lot attendants who try to tell me the truck is too large for their lot - I give them a sheet and point to the other larger vehicles (I'm 2" shorter, O/A, than the Ford & Chev CrewCabs). When they let me in, I just back into their little space (little do they know that with the tight turning radius, backing in is easier than straight in). DW is disabled and could not make the climb into the HDT but with the LoProfile MDT and a helper step built under the main step, she handles it fine. Her avocation is shopping and there's not a shopping center parking lot she can't whip that sucker into. That little lady coming out of the driver's seat of the truck, retrieving her cane or walker draws some looks as does the truck with its handicapped plates. She tells me she gets lots of guys coming over saying incredulously, "you drive that?" then followed with "can I look inside" or "what engine is in there" etc. Pretty funny. She drives 2 miles to every 1 I drive. With her replacement knees, hips and fused back, she finds the truck much easier to get in and out of than a car.

Ours needs to be defrosted every 3-4 months and like others, a hair dryer makes fast & easy work of it. Fridge side never needs attention.

RE: What do you guys do for a vacation???

It seems like one long vacation to you because, as you said, you are new at full timing. There comes a time when it is just everyday living with chores to do, books to read etc. It's just that when do the chores etc., we get to do it in different locales. We've taken cruises for vacations; found a special site on a MN lake etc. to stay at for a couple of weeks or so; spend time with our kids and grandkids in the spring, fall and over Christmas; have our kids fly out to see us when we are in fun places like Vegas, etc. Been at it now 11 yrs and it doesn't seem like a vacation but instead feels like a fabulous lifestyle.

RE: Screwed up with license in SD with new 5er

Your header seems to imply, at least to me, that SD was a participant in your problem while the facts you present seem to indicate the issues are a result of you and your agent - your dealer didn't present you with paperwork with the correct date and you didn't notice. It seems to me your SD agent, the mailbox service, was merely a facilitator of YOUR paperwork to the State and the State certainly isn't responsible for the dates on your paperwork. Or did I miss something?

RE: 5th Wheel Towing with a HDT

Super Hauler, ...I don't have an MTD or HDT, because with the long wheelbase I cannot get my trailer into my winding driveway...But to use a long wheelbase LDT or MTD to pull it is out of the question for me.My wheelbase is 170" and the last time I looked, the WB for the F350CC was 176.2". My turning radius is 23.5' - what's yours? I know yours is quite a bit larger, just wondering how much.

RE: Camping around Ft Myers, Fl

Our preference would be Silver Lakes Golf & RV Resort in Naples. Some pix are linked in my sig. You probably can find a spot for the month of Feb - perhaps with a site move. If you have a problem, PM me. I know of a couple of owners who are not coming till March and the last I heard, they hadn't rented their lots yet.
